The focus of my recent research includes the study of the forebrain mechanism of acute and chronic pain, pain-related memory, and what happens in the brain when rodents watch another conspecific in pain. The general strategy used in our lab is to identify behavior phenotype by observation, to map key regions in the brain using functional brain imaging and neural tracing methods, and to record neuronal activities in the region of interests to establish the relationship between behavior and neural activity. Our long-term goals are to understand mechanisms for pain-related functions and diseases, and mechanisms for the treatment of pain.
