After graduation from medical school, Dr. Lu has been trained as a pediatrician and then pediatric ID specialist in the National Taiwan University Hospital. Later, he also completed his PhD program in the Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine of the National Taiwan University, with a thesis major in the long-term immunity of hepatitis B vaccines. He shifted to works on molecular virology of HIV while he received his postdoctoral training in NIH, USA. After that, he became a staff an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, National Taiwan University Hospital. The major research works Dr. Lu is working on now include molecular pathogenesis of enterovirus 71, immunology of hepatitis B vaccines, and clinical aspects of various infectious diseases in children. Vaccination is another focus of research interest of Dr. Lu. He participated actively in many clinical trials of newly developed vaccines and several expert committees of vaccinations. In addition to clinical service and medical research, Dr. Lu also plays active roles in several charity organizations. For example, he is the Secretary-general of the Taiwan Immunization Vision and Strategy (TIVS), which advocates for optimal vaccination for all. He is also a council member of the Mercy Foundation, which is a charity aiming in helping children with HIV infection.
