My lab is primarily focused on studies of the therapy for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). While SMN acts to modulate and correct the neuromuscular junction for functional improvement, SMN-independent targets could play a role of extension in the survival of motor neurons and reduce the influence of SMN depletion in axonal dynamics. We used the SMA-like mouse model and cell lines to investigate the effects of different SMN-dependent and SMN-independent therapy for future SMA treatment.
