Dr Lee is a gastroenterologist at the National Taiwan University Hospital. He obtained his master degree at the Graduate Institute of Preventive Medicine¸ College of Public Health, National Taiwan University and the doctorial degree at the Division of Biostatistics, College of Public Health, National Taiwan University. An overriding theme throughout his researches is the cancer screening and prevention. His research combines the population-based intervention, use of endoscopic technology, with the statistical simulation and modeling. In addition, he focuses on the translation of findings from the basic researches to clinical application. His research fields include cancer prevention of the esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and the colorectal cancer. To take gastric cancer as an example, Dr Lee has devoted himself to the field of primary and secondary preventions of gastric cancer through active screening and treating the Helicobacter pylori infection in the general population in Taiwan. For the first time, the benefit of such a strategy has been quantified in the real world setting and the message that mass eradication of H. pylori is achievable has been disseminated throughout the world.
